Is the Way That You Are Going to the Bathroom Shortening Your Lifespan
Woman sitting on the Toilet and a Female Health Expert Squatting
Sitting Versus Squatting
This was written March 24, 2012. They had a segment on the Dr. Oz TV show about constipation. He asked a woman how many bowel movements that she had in a week. She said that in a good week, she has one bowel movement a week.
Ideally you should have a bowel movement for every time that you eat a meal. The links on this webpage are in blue. You can right click the BACK button for a menu of the webpages that you were on before.
There was a study done with 120,000 American adults that showed The Longer You Sit, the Shorter Your Life Span. So sitting is an unhealthy position. There are societies where the people never sit. Instead of sitting with their buttocks in the dirt, they squat.

Dr. Oz has an article called Tried and True: Health Tips That Really Work. It says:
5. Squat to Improve Bowel Movements
If you squat when going to the bathroom instead of sitting, you can release your bowels three times faster. This is actually the position that people around the world used for thousands of years before the invention of toilets. Squatting also reduces the development of hemorrhoids and strengthens your legs.
March 30, 2013 Update
I just added a new picture and video to this of Freelee. She eats an all raw vegan diet. For more about her and the benefits of her diet see Be Slim by Eating Good Carbs Instead of Bad Carbs. On this video she suggests and demonstrates how to squat on a toilet. End of Update.
Here is a short story about a conversation that changed my life.
Years ago a woman was calling a list of people that are looking for business opportunities. She called me and I told her to send me the information. I asked a few questions about it but we were all done in 5 minutes. But we started talking about health, since the business was about this and we talked quite a while. She lives with her boyfriend but I live alone.
I forgot her name but we got along great and exchanged a lot of information about health. After talking for over 3 hours her boyfriend gets home and she looks at the time. Both of us were shocked that we had been talking so long when we had other things to do. But we figured that we had wasted the day so not to worry about it and we talked for a total of 4 hours. Her boyfriend was not happy that she had been talking to a male stranger that long.
We were talking about the devices that you buy where you squat on them in front of the toilet. She told me that you could just squat on top of the toilet seat. I found that surprising since then you would not need those devices. But I told her that I would try it and see if it works. So that conversation with that woman changed my life. I never talked to her again but found that I could squat on the toilet seat and even read while doing it.
I have been doing it for years. You can wear slippers while doing it. It works much better than just sitting and greatly enhances elimination. Also if I need to use a public toilet I do not worry if the seat is clean since only the bottom of my shoes will be touching it. Here is an in depth article on the Health Benefits of the Natural Squatting Position. It lists 7 benefits of this position including:
1. Makes elimination faster, easier and more complete. This helps prevent "fecal stagnation," a prime factor in colon cancer, appendicitis and inflammatory bowel disease.
2. Protects the nerves that control the prostate, bladder and uterus from becoming stretched and damaged.
It also says:
Two-thirds of humanity
use the squatting position
to answer the call of nature. In those cultures, appendicitis,
diverticulosis, hemorrhoids, colitis,
prostate disorders and colon cancer
are virtually unknown. The sitting position makes elimination difficult and incomplete, and forces one to strain.
As a child I was taught not to strain since some people in my family had hemorrhoids and they said straining causes them. My uncle had them so bad when he was younger that he had to wear a towel between his legs sometimes.
It has a lot more detailed information to show that it is much better to be squatting than sitting, especially during elimination. So the guy who wrote this is the expert on this. But I do know a great deal about colon health, enemas and fasting. Many holistic health people feel that most health problems begin in the colon. They should teach in every school that animal foods have no fiber (dietary fiber) and the unprocessed plant foods (like whole grains instead of refined grains) have plenty of fiber. Fiber is indigestible but it helps keep the colon clean and working well. The U.S. National Library of Medicine, Pub Med says:
Individuals with high intakes of dietary fiber appear to be at ►significantly◄ lower risk for developing coronary heart disease, stroke, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and certain gastrointestinal diseases. Increasing fiber intake lowers blood pressure and serum cholesterol levels. Increased intake of soluble fiber improves glycemia and insulin sensitivity in non-diabetic and diabetic individuals. [Type 2 diabetes is not caused by lack of insulin but lack of insulin sensitivity]
So it is healthier to be squatting instead of sitting in general but it is much more crucial when you are eliminating waste or defecating. An enema is a quick way to wash out the waste in your colon or large intestine and it is done in hospitals a lot but you can do it at home with an enema kit from the drugstore.
Dr Norman Walker was a country doctor. He went to one house and the guy had a very high fever, lots of pain all over and skin redness. He asked the wife about when his last bowel movement was. The wife said "19 days ago!" He asked if she tried an enema. She never heard of it. So he gave the husband an enema and within an hour his fever, pain and redness was gone. Dr Walker gave enemas to 40,000 people but back then people did not know about fiber or what a vegetarian was. Now ex-President Bill Clinton is practically a vegan. He went back to eating meat.
The most common cancer in women is breast cancer. The most common type of cancer among men is prostate cancer. But the most common type of cancer among all Americans is colon or colorectal cancer. Lots of Americans suffer from inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn's disease. In fact, if you do not have an inflammatory bowel disease, then you ain't cool like Dr Oz.
In a movie with Adam Sandler, he was watching some kids. One kid was standing facing the wall. So Adam asked what was wrong and the boy showed him his pants were wet in his crotch area. So Adam went to the water fountain and threw water on his pants. Then the kids saw Adam and said that he peed his pants. So Adam said "You ain't cool unless you peed your pants." So when the kids got on the bus, all the boys had wet pants as noted by the bus driver (actor Chris Farley).☺
See this video of Dr Oz getting a colonoscopy. They find a pre-cancerous polyp and remove it. Also his doctor mentions that he sees that Dr Oz has a mild inflammatory bowel disease! The video is in 6 five minute segments. To just see the colonoscopy and removal of polyp watch segment 2. In part 1 he has to drink a half gallon of stuff before colonoscopy.
I have an article on the Benefits of Fasting, but here is what is important to this article. Just like the heart, the colon is constantly contracting and releasing (called peristalsis) 24 hours a day. So like the heart it never gets a chance to rest or have a vacation. But if you fast for more than several days then this peristalsis stops and your colon gets a rest and vacation. After this, the colon will works much better than it has in many years. Many Americans suffer from all sorts of colon problems because of what they eat and how they defecate (have a bowel movement).
On the third video below, you can see that over a billion Chinese people squat when they go to the bathroom. On the fourth video below, 2 Asians show you the right way to squat. They have been doing it their whole life.
