Kombucha Tea Health Benefits
The Chinese and Eastern-Europeans (like Russians) have been using this tea for thousands of years. This tells about the many health benefits of kombucha tea. This includes how it is good for the immune system (like in fighting cancer), digestion, metabolism, liver function, anti-aging, weight control and much more.
It has many probiotics that you find in yogurt and other foods. The gastro-intestinal system is a big part of the immune system and this helps it to work better. Because I have never drank any alcohol, it took me about 6 months to get used to the taste. Before that it tasted bad. It is about 0.5% alcohol. Wine is over 11% alcohol. In AZ you can buy under this amount like juice or buy the stronger kind that is sold as alcohol.
Kombucha is a fermented or cultured tea with a bacteria and yeast growing in it. This culture creates beneficial bacteria similar to that in yogurt but more. It also creates carbon dioxide (carbonation) and a little bit of alcohol and vinegar. It even creates these beneficial acids that help with joint pain and other things.
A friend of mine tried many things for his problem with digestion, including many herbal supplements, but nothing helped. Then he tried kombucha tea or kombucha drink and that totally healed his problem. Wikipedia says:
Kombucha (Russian: chaynyy grib (чайный гриб), Chinese: chájūn (茶菌), Korean: beoseotcha (버섯차)), is a lightly effervescent fermented drink of sweetened black tea and or green tea that is used as a functional food. It is produced by fermenting the tea using a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast, or "SCOBY".
The longer thst it is fermented, the more alcohol it has in it. But what they are doing in states where alcohol can be sold in any food store, they are making another kind as strong as they want to, but it is sold as an alcoholic beverage. This kind tastes even better and is supposed to be healthier for you. It costs a little more money but it is worth the extra money since I can feel a stronger effect.
One flavor is Multi-Greens. It contains Lake Klammoth blue-green algae, spirulina and chlorella (a green algae). I already have articles like (17 Health Benefits of Green Tea) and spirulina (blue-green algae). This tea can be made with organic green or black tea or organic yerba mate tea. You can even use the sugar cane evaporated juice called Succcanat that has all the nutrients of sugar cane.
WebMD.com has a webpage called Kombucha Tea. It says:
Kombucha tea is used for memory loss, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), joint pain (rheumatism), aging, loss of appetite, AIDS, cancer, high blood pressure, constipation, arthritis, and hair regrowth. It is also used for increasing white cell (T-cell) counts, boosting the immune system, and strengthening the metabolism.
This label used to have on it how the guy’s mother had breast cancer and used kombucha tea to help her cure it. Then the son started to sell this tea. This is no longer on the bottle. But the bottle does say that their kombucha tea is good for digestion, metabolism, immune system [like to help cancer], appetite control, weight control, liver function, body alkalinity, anti-aging, cell integrity and healthy skin and hair. They grow this culture in the tea for 30 days before they sell it.
One thing that kombucha tea is great at is detoxification. Most people have an excess of toxins since their body is getting rid of toxins at a slower rate than they have toxins coming into the body. In nautural health they call an excess of toxins– toxemia. This condition gets worse as people age since it continues for a longer period of time. This can cause most of the problems that people have as they get older.
This tea also has a lot of enzymes that are missing in cooked food. Kombucha tea also contains glucaric acid. This acid prevents cancer. The recently deceased Russian author and nobel-prize winner, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, in his autobiography, claimed that kombucha tea probably cured his stomach cancer during his internment in soviet labor camps. The glucosamines in this kombucha tea help to prevent and treat all forms of arthritis.
By drinking this you get benefits from all the probiotics in the culture (the bacteria and yeast) plus you get all the benefits that you get from drinking green tea. Probiotics are important to the gastrointestinal system. This is where most of the immunity is in the body. So you can say that it is an enhanced green tea. Also the carbon dioxide (carbonation ) in it, gives it a better more refreshing taste. Because of a great deal of carbonation in this drink, you have to be very careful when opening it.
Mother Earth News has an article called Health Benefits of Drinking Kombucha Tea. Much of the information comes from a book called Kombucha Rediscovered that is listed below as sold by Amazon.com. Here are some quotes from the article:
Individuals with arthritis have reported healing effects from drinking kombucha tea. Many dancers, both in Russia and North America, drink kombucha tea and report fewer ligament and arthritis problems, both of which are common among dancers and other athletes.
Drinking kombucha tea regularly has been known to lower high blood pressure.
The Cornell studies found kombucha tea effective in treating Candida albicans and the bacteria that commonly cause duodenal ulcers.
Because drinking kombucha tea energizes and boosts metabolism, it automatically fosters the health of the immune system.
Betsy Pryor reports impressive testimonial evidence that kombucha tea heals multiple sclerosis.
Some medical practitioners reportedly recommend kombucha tea for psoriasis.
For a person who has no underlying ailments, drinking a glass of kombucha tea just before bedtime can help overcome problems with falling asleep and not sleeping soundly.
In the video below Dr. Josh Axe (D.C.) says the 4 major benefits of this drink is that it first has cleansing and detoxification properties. The body is cleaning itself everyday but people take in toxins every day. So is a matter of rates. If the rate of taking in and creating toxins is higher than the rate of the body getting rid of them, then the body has more and more of a back-up everyday. In natural health, they call this toxemia or actual cause of many health problems.
Second it has nutrients that are great for your joints. Third it greatly helps your digestive system. Enzymes and probiotics help digestion. Fourth he says that it has lots of antioxidants that helps the immune system but that comes from the tea so it has all the many benefits listed in the above article about green tea. He says that it is also great for energy. Better bacteria in the colon helps the colon in many ways.
Note that the sugar in it is consumed as it is fermenting by the SCOBY (acronym that stands for Symbiotic Colony Of Bacteria and Yeast). Please do not confuse a SCOBY with Scooby Doo-- a cartoon character. Laser and scuba used to be acronyms for "light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation" and "self-contained breathing apparatus."
In a video below a guy is saying that he makes kombucha tea with spring water. It is much better to use distilled water or reverse osmosis water (R/O). See the article Drinking Water Can Cripple You. The above waters that I suggest are pure water. Spring water is allowed to be tap water according to the law.
For an easy way to make your own kombucha at home and save yourself a ton of money, see Homemade Kombucha: How to Make Homemade Kombucha. This information comes from Jesse Lane Schelew, CNP. A CNP is a Certified Nutritional Practitioner in Canada and she is also a Holistic Nutritionist.
See article above to see the legal definition of spring water. It has minerals in that can make you blind or crippled. Also the filter that lets minerals through also lets lots of toxic substances through like all the medications that are in our ground water. Also you can make your kombucha tea with green tea instead of black tea or you can use a mixture of both. You can even use yerba mate tea. See Health Benefits of Yerba Mate Tea.
If anyone complains about the above pure water being pure and having no minerals in it, when you make tea with it, it has lots of healthy minerals in it. I bet you did not know that there were healthy and unhealthy minerals? Anyone who has taken chemistry and organic chemistry in college understands this. These subjects existed before organically grown food existed. I used to be a chemist for the federal government.
