Black Pepper Health Benefits

Herbs have been used for thousands of years. The most popular treatment by medical doctors now is drugs (medications). They have bad side effects and many have been recalled. In the late 1800s the most popular treatment by medical doctors was bleeding or bloodletting. Many people had most of their blood bled out of them.

In the Harry Potter movies, they used spells that do not work in real life. They also used herbs and herbs can do incredible things. A very experienced herbalist told me that many times there is a plant growing near an animal that has poisons or venom that can help as an antidote. She told me that since she had helped a woman with something like that.

Black pepper is the most popular spice in the world. The herb or spice black pepper has helped with relief from coughs, respiratory disorders, common colds, constipation, indigestion, impotency, anemia, dental disease, pyorrhea (gum disease), diarrhea, and heart disease. It's scientific (Latin) name is Piper nigrum. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) it is called Hu Jiao. It is also called the king of the spices.

WebMD says about black pepper or white pepper:

Black pepper and white pepper are made from the Piper nigrum plant. Black pepper is ground from dried, whole unripe fruit. White pepper is ground from dried, ripe fruit that has had the outer layer removed. The black pepper and white pepper powder are used to make medicine.

People take black pepper for stomach upset, bronchitis, and cancer. They take white pepper for stomach upset, malaria, cholera, and cancer.

Black pepper is sometimes applied directly to the skin for treating nerve pain (neuralgia) and a skin disease called scabies. Black pepper and white pepper are also used topically as a counterirritant for pain.

Black and white pepper might help fight germs (microbes) and cause the stomach to increase the flow of digestive juices.

Black Pepper is Good for Digestion

It can help the stomach to create more hydrochloric acid if it needs to. This prevents colic, diarrhea and constipation. Black pepper also promotes sweating and urination. More sweating helps the body to cleanse itself. This helps the immune system to be stronger. The body is always producing toxins and always taking in toxins. It is also constantly cleansing itself.

Things like fasting helps the body to take in less toxins and sweating causes the body to cleanse itself faster. So sweating helps the body to not get the flu or colds. I have not had a cold or flu in over 15 years. Also it is very important to get enough vitamin D. See How to Avoid the Flu or Colds.

Black Pepper is a Powerful Antioxidant

Black pepper is a powerful antioxidant so it can help the body to avoid, cardiovascular diseases, liver problems, cancer, wrinkles, age spots and memory loss.

Helps Turmeric to Work Much Better

Turmeric is the best herb for preventing inflammation. This prevents all disease that become more prominent with aging. Turmeric is not very bioavailable by itself. If you consume it with black pepper, it makes it 20 times more bioavailable. So I add both of these spices to my food. The above is due to the phytochemcial (plant medicine) in black pepper called piperine. See 12 Health Benefits of Turmeric. Also black pepper itself helps to reduce inflammation.

Brain Health

The piperine also helps to stimulate the brain preventing dementia and Alzheimer's disease. It reduces cognitive malfunction and memory impairment. Make sure to see the benefits of turmeric since many of the heath benefits overlap.

Weight Loss

The outer layer of the peppercorn has a substance that helps to breakdown the fat cells that are then used to help the body with other functions. Many plant foods help with weight loss. Unllike animal foods, plant foods have fiber. Fiber fills up the stomach but but you do not get calories from fiber since it cannot be digested. It has many health benefits since it helps to clean out the colon.

Antibacterial Ability

The antibacterial ability of black pepper fights against insect bites and infections.

It also helps the nervous system, respiratory system, circulatory system, musculoskeletal system and the skin. The largest exporters of black pepper are Vietnam and India. Since it can cause sneezing you must be careful taking it after having abdominal surgery.
