October 2012 New Type of Facebook Advertising
Facebook now has a billion users so if they were a country, they would be the third biggest country in the world behind China and India. Do you have $7? If so, then you can use this new type of Facebook advertising. It takes about 2 minutes.
The normal advertising that they have works well but is complex like any type of advertising. You need to create a Facebook page to send the people to-- called a "capture page." This new type of Facebook advertising is different. Anyone with a credit card or PayPal can do it for $7. You do not even need to enter a name, address or phone number.
Whenever you enter a post on your Facebook page or someone else's Facebook page, they now have at the bottom of it the words Like, Comment, Promote or Share. Your post can just be something that you write and/or have a link to a text page or video. It could be one of your articles.
If you click on "Promote" Facebook explains that for $7 you can have this post put higher in newsfeeds. Not all posts are in all the newsfeeds. They use an algorithm that tries to place only the most important ones in newfeeds so someone does not have too much to read. Unpromoted posts are only seen by 12% to 16% of friends.
For $7 Facebook puts this post in a higher position so more people will see it. The only wav this post will look different than any other post is at the bottom, instead of having "Promote" at the bottom, it will have "Sponsored" at the bottom which means that it is an ad-- sort of.
Since this is brand new, they will need to test it to see if it works well but it was created by some on the most brilliant minds in computer science. Also $7 is very little in today's economy. It is about the cost of going to a movie and not buying any snacks or buying 2 fancy cups of coffee.
It can even be used while saying something about a 2012 U.S. presidential candidate that may help determine who wins the election. I bet that a lot of Ron Paul fans would be using it if Ron Paul did not leave the 2012 race, but he is planning to run again in 2016.
They even have a movie about Facebook called The Social Network and it is a very entertaining movie. Only time will tell how big this new type of advertising will be, but it is great to see a simple, very low cost of advertising on Facebook. You cannot expect much for $7 but if it works, you can use it many times. Like you are an activist, you can use it to help promote your cause! It may work wonders for a business. I bet that in time, people will develop interesting strategies to use this.
This webpage has more on this and says:
Facebook is the world’s largest social network, with over 1 billion monthly active users. Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg in February 2004, initially as an exclusive network for Harvard students. It was a huge hit: in 2 weeks, half of the schools in the Boston area began demanding a Facebook network. Zuckerberg immediately recruited his friends Dustin Moskovitz, Chris Hughes, and Eduardo Saverin to help build Facebook, and within four months, Facebook added 30 more college networks.
