What is a natural born citizen

This was written January 27, 2012, the Chinese year of the dragon. Probably the answer to this will be decided in the next several months. Do you think that people born in the U.S. can be president of the U.S.? What if the parents are French diplomats visiting the U.S. and have a child?

Did you know that a child can be born anywhere like Iran or China and still be a U.S. citizen at birth? According to the Naturalization Act they can be if their parents were citizens of the United States at the time of birth.

The U.S. Constitution does not say that people born in the U.S. can be president. It says Article II Section 1:

No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President....

Scientology teaches that it is very important that you understand the meaning of words that you use so you do not become confused. So what does "natural born citizen" mean? In other words, what is its definition? How does the U.S. Constitution define a natural born citizen? It does not. So the answer is that the U.S. Supreme Court needs to determine what it means. Has it done that? Yes! Wikipedia says:

An English-language translation of Emerich de Vattel's 1758 treatise The Law of Nations (original French title: Le Droit du gens), stating that "The natives, or natural-born citizens, are those born in the country of parents who are citizens," was quoted in 1857 by Supreme Court justice Peter Vivian Daniel in a concurring opinion in Dred Scott v. Sandford,[17] as well as by Chief Justice Melville Fuller in 1898 in his dissenting opinion in United States v. Wong Kim Ark.[18]

So according to this Barack Obama's father would have to be a U.S. citizen. So was he? A court in Georgia was shown evidence that he was not and Barack Obama was subpoenaed to appear. Neither did he or his lawyer appear. So this court is going to decide whether to take Obama off of the ballot in Georgia in the upcoming election.

The U.S. Supreme court can change that accepted definition or make their own definition. For example one court declared that if someone is born in another country but both parents are U.S. citizens then the child is a natural born citizen. That way if Bill and Hillary Clinton were visiting another country and had a child there then that child would be eligible to be president.

This article here says:

YOU READ THAT RIGHT: Barack Hussein Obama II has publicly admitted his father, Barack Obama Sr., was a Kenyan native and a British subject whose citizenship status was governed by The British Nationality Act of 1948. Barack Obama Sr. NEVER became a U.S. citizen.

This is an objective article on this question but I do have an article about why I want Ron Paul to be president. Disclaimer: Please note that I am not a lawyer so I cannot give legal advice. There is a balance of power between the executive, legislative and judicial branches of the government. The president (executive branch) can hire the Supreme Court Justices (judicial branch) but he cannot fire them. So most of these judges were hired by previous presidents.
